Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Apr 22: The Kashmiri Pandits stationed at Veerwan Pandit Colony in Baramulla district are deprived of basic amenities including drinking water and ration; the inhabitants of the VPC are up in arms against the concerned authorities.
The KPS have alleged that taps have been running dry in their colony from past several weeks and with the result the old aged ladies are being forced to fetch water from nearby streams.
The inhabitants of this VPC said that the Government has failed to repair the water pipes and now they don't provide pure drinking water to us.
T N Pandita said that, one water plant is under the supervision of PHE Baramulla that is being constructed from last five years, and if it is completed this year on fast track basis it will solve our problem of drinking water.
The project should be completed immediately as the work on it is going on at snail's pace from past five years , and authorities must ensure that it should be made functional this year, said Pandita. He said that it seems that tall claims of the govt falls flat, as you see the KPS living in VPC Baramulla is being deprived for basic amenities like water, Ration and other things. Avtar Bhat told ET that the colony was established here in 2010 for KPS and till date Govt has failed to provide basic facilities despite centre have sanctioned crores of Rupees every year for this community. Funds meant for KPS are not being utilized properly.
Today we are very thankful to the nearby Army Camp who provided us drinking water. Last time an Army officer had seen our old aged ladies that were fetching drinking water in a jungle (dense forest area), said Bhat.
He said that the local administration has failed to provide us drinking water and now army has supplied it own water tankers and we preserve it for a weak long time.
A Pandit lady said that our Prime Minister Narinder Modi is making promise on international platform with the countrymen that he will provide electricity for remotest areas in this year. But his government has failed to provide basic amenities at local level.
By depriving basic facilities it seems that as we are not the citizen of this country. We KPS have always given sacrifices for our country right from the very beginning, but today we are being ignored and isolated everywhere, said a Pandit lady.
