Early Times Report
Jammu, May 18: It appears that Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Jammu has become a hub of nepotism and favouritism. For example, an influential doctor has been posted, for the last five years, at Urban Health Centre Sidhra against a post which doesn't exist.
"Dr Jameela Akhtar was posted at UHC Roop Nagar in 2011. She remained posted at Roop Nagar till 2014. After that she managed to get herself posted at UHC Sidhra which is near her home," sources told Early Times.
They said this example of brazen favouritism in the DHS Jammu mocks at the claims of government of bringing transparency in the system.
There was only one post of National Health Mission and no other post of doctor at the UHC Sidhra. Despite fully aware of the fact that there was no post of doctor, the DHS Jammu has been offering undue favour to Dr Jameela for last many years.
Even many orders were issued time and again regarding the detachment of the attached employees, but DHS Jammu did not care a fig for these orders and continued with its malpractices.
Last year, Health and Medical Education Department had issued a circular (No. 05-HME of 2017, dated 13-11-2017), in which they mentioned that some doctors and employees managed to attach themselves as per their wish. The DHS Jammu and other concerned authorities were asked to stop the salaries of such doctors.
When contacted by Early Times, Director, DHS Jammu, Dr Gurjeet Singh claimed that there was a sanctioned post of a doctor. When asked about Dr Jameela, he dropped the call.
Contesting the claims of Director Jammu, a senior official in DHS Jammu, seeking anonymity, said it is very unfortunate that Director of DHS Jammu does not know about the non-existent post at Sidhra.
"There is no sanctioned post at UHC Sidhra so far. The doctor posted there is believed to have close proximity with senior officials of the DHS and has strong political background due to which she has been enjoying the posting near to her residence," the sources added.
When the matter was taken up with Minister for Health and Medical Education Department, Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, he assured that appropriate action shall be taken after inquiring the matter.
