International Day for Biological Diversity Observed | | | Early Times Report
Hiranagar, May 22: On the occasion of "International Day for Biological Diversity" a Programme was organised in the premises of GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar in which O.P Sharma Vidyarthi, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Director Ecology, and Environment & Remote sensing Department of J&K was the special invitee. Sharma in his brief exhorted the students that the number of species is being significantly reduced by certain human activities and stressed to end the use of plastics and non biodegradable materials in the college campus and work for the conservation of Biodiversity in order to sustain human life on the mother planet. Saleem ul Haq DFO Environment Jammu who was the Guest of Honour advised the students to phase out junk foods in the interest of less plastic garbage accumulation as per World Environment Day theme 2018 to end plastic pollution. Principal of the College Prof. Subhash Chander Sharma along with senior faculty member Prof. Daya Vilas were also present on the occasion. The programme was organised by the Department of Botany under the convenor ship of Prof. Vijay Kumar H.O.D Botany. |
