Cloud burst wreaks havoc in Thanamandi

Rajouri, June 18: Flash floods caused due to cloud burst created havoc in Thanamandi sub dvision in Rajouri district and has damaged agriculture land, paddy and maize crops, live stock and houses etc.
In a few villages, lightening claimed cattle at Kali Pass Marg pasture and the matter was reported at Kotranka police station.
An official statement said that 70 hectare area under maize and 20 hectare area under paddy cultivation was completely damaged.
The floods also destroyed 6 houses were damaged beyond repair and more than 12 were damaged partially.
The worst affected villages include Planagar, Lah, Behrote, Sorah and Khablan. In Khablan village entire agriculture land and stand crop has been damaged due to debris.
Large number of irrigation canals, flood protection works, bunds and water supply lines has also been washed away in these areas. Un-accounted animals were also washed away and the relief teams have traced many carcasses.
District administration has extended an immediate relief of Rs1 lakh to the owners of fully 6 damaged houses.
A team of district officers, including Executive Engineers of PWD(R&B), PDD, PHE, PMGSY, I&FC; Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), SDM,Thanamandi ,visited the affected areas and interacted with the affected people.
On the request of people DDC directed CAO to provide seeds on 100% subsidy to the affected farmers while PMGSY department has pressed machinery to clear the debris and revenue department will provide assistance for debris clearance as per the approved permissible rates notified by the Department of Disaster Management.
"Department of Disaster Management J&K is taking up relief and restoration on top priority and compensation cases of previous massive losses have already been submitted to the department in addition to the immediate relief provided" said Dr Shahid Iqbal, DDC.
