Vohra need not be replaced during the current critical stage
6/22/2018 10:34:00 PM
The BJP led NDA Government is hopeful of the fluid security scenario in the Kashmir valley changing into better situation. That too under the regime headed by Governor, N.N. Vohra, who has been in Jammu and Kashmir as a constitutional head since 2008. Despite having got extension in 2013 which is to expire in 2018. But given the situation and the circumstances the centre should not make any change in Vohra being Governor of the state which is under his rule. During the last 10 years he has been able to know the politicians, their mood and temperament. During these 10 years he has been able to visit each and every place in the state whether as constitutional head or the Chairman of the Amarnath Shrine Board. And when he was appointed as Governor in 2008 he removed the controversial Amarnath land transfer which had kicked up regional controversy and thereby Vohra has shown his mettle and worth. During the time the state of Jammu and Kashmir is under the Governor's rule Vohra need not be changed and his replacement, at this juncture, may prove a big mistake on the part of the central Government. Even if his replacement has worked in Kashmir as Army commander or a senior civil servant it may take time to understand the nuances of the situation.
After a week the annual Amarnath yatra is to begin and Vohra is the right man to upgrade the security grid so that the yatra remains incident free. And if the Union Minister's statement is any guide Vohra may not be replaced. The situation in Jammu and Kashmir will improve under Governor's rule, Union minister Mahesh Sharma has said. In 2014, the BJP had made arrangements to form a government with the PDP because of the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir and for the benefit of the state, he said. The BJP led NDA Government kept it (alliance) for three years, but now with the present political situation having changed, the time has come for imposing Governor's rule A rule where the might of the state can take on terrorists with the help of the people. With the imposition of Governor's rule, the situation in the state will change for the better, and the change is already apparent with the security forces and police working with more confidence now.
And if the central Government wants to show the results the person who can deliver the goods is none other than N.N. Vohra. He is a seasoned bureaucrat and has experience worth 100 politicians who keep on misleading people by saying one thing at one place and changing it whenever they visit another place. If the BJP leadership wants to prove to the people of the state that whatever it has done by withdrawing support to the PDP was for the interest of people of Jammu and Kashmir Vohra can be trusted for showing results. Right from yesterday he has started his innings as head of the executive by organizing top police and civil servants to come up to the expectations of people by redressing their grievances. First of all Vohra has to ensure uninterrupted power supply and drinking water. Secondly he needs to summon courage to take up the problem of unemployment in the state for which he has to ensure opening of new industrial units and for reservations in the Armed Forces, central Government Departments and public sector undertakings which alone could resolve the problem of unemployment. Once he handles these problems he would be a man to be remembered for years to come.
