Early Times Report

Udhampur, June 22 : Mocking at the tall claims of the government to provide state of the art facilities to the sportspersons across the state, the sports stadium Udhampur, named after Netaji Subhash Chander Bose has been reduced into a cattle pond. The complete nonchalance on part of the concerned officials can be gauged from the fact that the sports persons including women athletes have to practice in the stadium alongside the stray cattle and no one is bothered to drive them away.
One walker, who is regular to the stadium while talking to Early Times said that despite repeated complaints, there has been no action by the Sports department as the district administration. "It is not just the loss of playing space that hurts; Presence of cattle which are let loose on the playground are also responsible for filth, squalor and outbreak of diseases. Authorities must do the needful to restrain them from entering the stadium," he added.
A sportsperson Tarun expressed his resentment against the concerned officials and said that besides the cattle menace, there was no washroom facility or changing room for girls. He further added that huge funds have been sanctioned for this stadium, but nobody knows where and how they have been utilized. "It is difficult to say whether it is a sports stadium or a cattle pond" he lamented.
