Early Times Report
Udhampur, July 11: Manwal bus stand here lacks basic infrastructure, causing huge inconvenience to the public.
Though there is a heavy footfall at this place, authorities concerned have failed to construct a community toilet and a passenger waiting shed at the bus stand.
"I come here daily to board a bus to Udhampur to reach my office. Many times I have to wait for the bus under the sky or a tree no matter if it is a hot sunny day or a rainy day," Balbir Das told Early Times.
Das said that a passenger waiting shed is immediately required at this bus stand as many times people, particularly, women passengers have to wait under the open sky, and a passenger waiting shed would provide them a sense of security from eve-teasers and other miscreants.
Banso Rani, another daily commuter informed that there is no toilet at the bus stand and this sometimes creates a lot of problems. "Women find it embarrassing to ease themselves in the open. Also, there is fear of criminals," she said.
The district administration have launched a scheme under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Ravinder Kumar for constructing toilet structure. "This scheme is successful in whole district, but why is there no bus stand and toilet facility at Manwal," asked Rani.
An elderly man Sohan Lal having a small stall at the bus stand said that separate toilets for gents and ladies is required at this bus stand. He said that hundreds of passenger vehicles daily arrive here carrying people from different areas come. Some NGOs working in the area have appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter.
