Jammu, July 11: "Sports activities play important role in personality development of youth," said Chairman Team Jammu while inaugurating 10th Mahaveer Kesri Dangal organized in remote belt of Sumb in Samba district.
A huge number of spectators from Sumb, Goran, Samba and other adjoining villages witnessed the Dangal and appreciated the bouts played and efforts of organizers for holding this mega wrestling event. Women wrestling was greatly applauded by the rural masses especially women folk who in thousands witnessed the event and expressed a deep sense of gratitude to the management of the event.
In his address, Chairman Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal appreciated the Dangal Committee especially its President Pankaj Sharma Latto for arranging such mega Dangal. He said Dangals played an important role in keeping the youth on the right track and away from drug abuse. He said if female wrestlers from Haryana can come & compete in Dangals with men then why not from J&K state. He rued lack of proper sports policy in state due to which youth are unable to exhibit their caliber despite having capacity and talent. He further said our the government should have a well planned policy for sports so that youth interested in sports can come from the ground level events.
About 86 bouts were played & total bout money was 3.50 lakhs. First bout was held between Ajay of Udhampur & Kaka from Jammu which remained tie. 2nd bout was in between Kalu of Himachal & sukha of Haryana in which kalu defeated Sukha. In the third bout Murad Ali of Reasi defeated Monu from Jalandhar . But the main attraction of the Dangal was female wrestlers Ashwani & Pooja from Haryana who defeated male wrestlers of more weight & size. The wrestler Pooja from Haryana fought in three bouts and won all. She enthralled the spectators by his wrestling skills.
Others who were present on the occasion are Chandan Dutta, Surjeet Singh, Rinku Singh, Yashpal Master Shambu Dutt, Surinder Singh and Des Raj Sharma.
