Locals register protest against Pakal Dool project
Failure to engage youth of area

Kishtwar, July 12: In a major stand off between the land oustees and the executing agency AFCON, the people of Dool and its adjoining areas today held a strong protest against the District Administration, Police and the construction agencies for not entertaining the local unemployed skilled and unskilled youth for jobs in the 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power project which was recently inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the angry people assembled at zero point Dool some 15 KM from Kishtwar town and tried to march towards the project site but was intercepted by heavy contingent of police presence as a result of which heated arguments took place between the people and the police. The police later cane charged the protestors leaving some of them injured.
The angry protestors finally managed to break the police cordon and held a strong protest against the administration and police demanding immediate removal of Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.
The angry raised slogans in support of their demands and sought an end to contractor system and called upon the executing agencies to appoint the locals as well as the land oustees without any further delay.
Speaking to "Early Times" the angry people accuses DC and SP Kishtwar of harassing the people and threatening them with FIRs and arrest under Public Safety Act added that police parties are raiding at their homes to arrest all those who leads the protest.
They said that they are protesting peacefully demanding job for poor people of the area and alleges that IFCON company has sold the project into the hands of administration and police who are hand in glove with the company to suppress the aspiration of the local unemployed youths.
They said that last time when they held a protest, ACR Kishtwar approach them and ensure that he will arrange their meeting for felicitating their demands with authorities.
They said that during the meeting, the administration and the police instead of speaking in their favour were seen toeing the company line and openly threatened the people with PSA.
Some of the protestors allege that the company also tried to bargain with them which they refuses and like other also faces the wrath of administration and police.
The protestor says that until and unless the government replaces the DC & SP, they will continue its protest in which even their family members including women's and children's will join.
"We are holding protest peacefully-but police cane charged on us in which few of our protestors got injured-we only want that out voices with regards to encroachment of our basic rights to reach into the ear of Governor" said protestors Muddasir Ahanger and demanded jobs for the local inhabitants as well as for the people of Kishtwar.
National Conference MLC Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo also rushed to the spot and joined the protestors. Kichloo in his speech condemned the police action on peaceful protestors and warned the company for ignoring the basic rights of the local people. He also cautioned the police and administration for using force to silence the voices of the land owners and unemployed youths of Kishtwar District. He said that in case the company as well as the local administration didn't stops harassment of local land owners as well towards unemployed youths, NC will call for mass scale protest against them.
