Work in Post Office Kishtwar suffers as computers develop snag

KISHTWAR, July 18: The work at post office Kishtwar has remained totally paralyzed for the last two days as the computer installed there developed some malfunctioning due to which there is remote possibility with regard to resumption of work at the post office in the next 2-3 days.
With the work in post office got completely stalled, a large number of people, particularly students, who had to apply for various courses and jobs are suffering.
While the machinery has hampered the smooth functioning of Kishtwar post office for the last few days, its working is already badly affected due to the dearth of the staff as several posts are lying vacant there. There is only one permanent postman in the Kishtwar post office for the area spread over 7800 Sq including far flung areas of Marwah, Warwan Dachhan, Machail, Paddar, Kither Bhunjwah, Sarthal, Saroor and other areas which are far away from Kishtwar District Headquarter having the population of more than 2.50 lakh.
The locals said that they fail to receive the letters and other important documents time due to non availability of the staff at the post office adding that even if they pay a visit to the post office personally, they face lots of problems in tracing their letters and parcels.
"I visited the post office Kishtwar for depositing examination related material including answer sheets of MANUU of GDC Kishtwar center, but Head Post Master refused to accept the same on the pretext that he had no staff to manage the material," said Mohammad Saleem Shah adding that Head Poster Master even gave him a written declaration stated that "Due to shortage of staff and system failure, parcels could not be booked."
Speaking to "Early Times" Head Post Master Kamal Nain Sharma accepted that they are facing the shortage of staff at the post office adding that the work load at this post office has increased many fold while no extra creation of staff has been done for last several years.
e said that due to computer failure, the work is suspended since last two days. The Head Post Master further said that though they tried to seek the help of local engineers in restoring the system, but they fail to do so it adding that they have now decided to send these computers to Udhampur for repair.
