Early Times Report
Qazigund, July 18: Enforcement wing of Commercial Taxes Departm-ent on Wednesday seized a truck loaded with rice at Lower Munda Check post.
The vehicle, according to officials of Enforcement wing of Commercial Taxes Department was returning to Jammu from (FCI) Baramulla PEG without unloading the ration at FCI go-down.
Mir Parvez Ahmad, under whose supervision the Enforcement wing of Commercial Taxes Department intercepted the vehicle in Qazigund area and later seized it said that 313 bags of rice were recovered from the vehicle bearing registration number JK02AQ-2557.
He said that the seized vehicle and its driver were later handed over to Qazigund Police for further investigation.
According to driver's statement the officials at (FCI) Baramulla PEG took over his challan and other documents and allowed him to return back to Jammu without unloading the rice.
Station House Officer Qazigund Tanveer Ahmad told Early Times that they will register FIR once the Commercial Taxes Department files a written complaint.
No official from (FCI) Baramulla PEG was available for a comment.
This isn't for the first time that (FCI) Baramulla PEG is in news for a bad reason, earlier in 2016 it came to fore that seven trucks loaded with rice meant for the Food Corporation of India (FCI) Baramulla PEG never reached the destination.
Documents had revealed that trucks bearing registration numbers PB32P-2971, PB32P-8871, PB32P-5171, PB32P-3971 and PB32P-4271 weren't unloaded at (FCI) Baramulla PEG.
