Unemployed youth strike enters day 15

kishtwar, July 21: The ongoing strike of unemployed youths in Dool area of Kishtwar District demanding jobs for the local unemployed youths in 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power Project enter day 15 with youths sitting on indefinite hunger strike since last four days refuses to call off the strike till the demands of the local people could not be accepted.
As per the details, the unemployed youths of Kishtwar District along with hundreds of retrenched skilled and unskilled labourers of Dool-Hasti and Baglihar Power project are on protest against the dictatorial and east India company type attitude of the IFCON company management who has been awarded with the contract of construction of the power project who are denying jobs to them.
Muddasir Ahanger, who is on hunger strike since last four days and was even shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar after he along with other fell unconscious yesterday said that they are simply demanding jobs in the project for the local unemployed youths along with the land ousted families directly into the company beside called for an end to contractor system. He said that the administration and police at behest of the company are harassing them. He said that the company even fails to provide jobs to the land owners who gives their land for the project and said that they will continue the fight till the demands will be agreed upon. He said that no official either from the administration or from the company visited them since last several days. He also denied the claim of administration; police and company regarding the engagement of 72 local youths in the project added that only a dozen of local people have so far been engaged by the company while all others are non local.
"We neither pelted stones nor we are seeking Azadi- we are peacefully sitting on protest and were only demanding jobs" says Waseem Akram. He said that there are 34 families whose land was acquired for the project even did not get any job added that how come they (company) claim that they were engaging locals. He said that the company is even not providing them the list of those who had been engaged so that they could tally it to ascertain the facts which company and administration is hiding. He called upon the Governor N N Vohra to intervene into the matter and provide justice to them. He said that they will continue its peaceful strike till the company did not agreed upon the demands of the local people.
Another youth said that some 25 police personals has been engaged by the company for security purpose which is in addition to 150 police personals sanctioned and agreed by the DG J&K on the terms and condition that the salaries of these police personals will be burden by the company and are yet to join.
Despite repeated attempts, IFCON Company incharge Manmeet Singh could not be reach out for the comment.
