BVM High School celebrates Guru Purnima | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, July 27: Bhartiya Vidya Mandir High School Udhampur celebrated Guru Purnima. The programme started with Saraswati Vandana and lighting the traditional lamp by Principal of the school Renu Sharma. Students of the school honoured teachers with Tilak in his / her forehead. Principal said that this festival commemorates the goodness of spiritual gurus and teachers as thousands of devotees worship and thank their gurus for enlightenment. This festival has a deep and interesting history and this year it falls on July 27, Friday. Guru Purnima in itself is a paradoxical term, with 'Gu' meaning darkness and 'ru' standing for the removal of darkness. Thus, a guru is believed to be someone who removes all darkness from our lives. From spiritual gurus to secular ones, people pay respect to teachers all over the country. This day falls on the full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashaadh which falls in the months of June or July. This is the first full moon after the summer solstice. A guru is considered as the one who rids us of the darkness of ignorance and fills us with the light of knowledge. On this day schools and colleges across the country have special functions and students are enthusiastically involved in organising and participating in these activities. |
