Delhi takes cognizance of Tweets alleging misappropriation, discrimination within Sports Council
Rajbhawan seeks clarification
7/29/2018 11:05:38 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 29: A tremor has hit the State Sports Council after Rajbhawan sought clarification from it over the tweets of a champion gymnast in Jammu, who raised the issue of gross discrimination against Jammu in the field of sports and posted her grievances along with documentary evidence on twitter, tagging the Union Sports Ministry and the PMO.
The attempts are now on by the nervous officers and the officials of the Sports Council to cater lies and half- truths to Rajbhawan and escape further action.
Sources within the J&KSSC however divulge that the issue raised by the champion gymnast, Palak Kour, who claims to have represented the country in many international championships besides winning handful of medals at the national events, is merely the tip of the iceberg.
"Discrimination against Jammu in the development of sports infrastructure and discriminatory utilization of funds in Kashmir is no secret, but there is more to the issue then what has been highlighted by Palak" said an official of the Council, pleading not to be named. "J&K witnessed backdoor appointments, misappropriation of funds, misuse of official position and much more during the last few years and there is no end to the impropriety even in the Governor's rule" he added.
ET learnt that J&KSSC did not only appoint its joint secretary Kashmir through the backdoor, but also appointed his daughter on a position in its central secretariat trashing all rules and regulations. The said joint secretary is now reported to be misusing the official resources and facilities at will. A dietician was also appointed similarly through the backdoor on behest of an officer in the secretariat at a hefty monthly remuneration, without any work. There are many more on the list who were appointed on different posts forgoing any eligibility criteria.
There have also been reports of financial misappropriation in the Kashmir and Jammu wings of the engineering wings of the J&KSSC, wherein works have been done without financial or administrative approvals through blue eyed contractors. "Council has a works committee and it is mandatory to get its approval in all such works taken up by the Engineering wing, but norms have been flouted with impunity and a probe into all such works can unearth huge bungling" said a former member of the Council.
With state administration recently appointing a new Secretary for the Council, the onus lies on it to unearth and undo the wrongs done in the Council in last couple of years.
