Banquet halls runs in violation of norms in Kathua
'Have no parking slots and treatment plants'

JAMMU, July 29: Both Pollution Control Department (PCB) and District Administration of Kathua have failed to take action against banquet halls and other establishements which are operating in violation of norms within city limits.
However, the crystal clear guidelines of Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board (JKPCB) and Water Resources and Management Act 2010 which makes mandatory to discharge treated water into water bodies by establishing treatment plant inside the banquet halls but most of banquets halls in kathua city and its adjoining areas are running without treatment plants which posing threat to eco-fragile environment of jammu and kashmir.
Moreover, the most of the marriage halls have no parking stands and during marriage season they all stands vehicles on road and creating chaos in smooth traffic movements.
"Due to absence of adequate parking space in these banquet halls, a long queue of traffic jam can also be seen outside the banquet halls during peak marriage season which creates chaos in smooth traffic movement but authority seems least bothered about it " , said sources source while wishing anonymity.
Source in Pollution control department informed Early Times that there were only two or three banquets which were established recently within city limits have been following set norms by establishing either treatment plants and adequate parking slot within establishment limits but other banquet hall which is running in city and its outskirts since long times, have been deliberately violating the norms of Pollution Control Board and local bodies.
He further said, "Maximum of banquet halls in Kathua city has been violating the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act, 2010 (Water Act).
According to guidelines of Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board (JKPCB) each banquet hall must have waste water treatment plant and sewage treatment plant, to treat the waste water generated in the hall, before discharging the water into drains.
A social activist wishing anonymity and alleged the PCB department of Kathua losing his credibility in each passing days."Due to unprofessional approach of department concerned, the guidelines of water resources act is not implementing", he asserted.
He further said that causal approach or malpractices of the PCB department, the owners of Industrial area too blatantly violations of water resources act and frequently degrades the water quality. "This shows something is coking between banquet owners and employees of the PCB", he alleged.
However, the department concerned (PCB) repeatedly informed the owners of the banquet halls owners and published noticed repeatedly in different daily newspapers regarding Pollution control board norms regarding established of treatment plant and parking space but so far, they never respond towards.
