BJP will be wiped out across nation if PM Modi goes by Mehbooba
J&K issue
7/30/2018 11:56:13 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 30: Desperate former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has come out with a new proposal, which, she feels, could end unrest in Kashmir and ensure peace in South Asia. She has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accept her suggestion and earn name in history as a man who resolved Jammu & Kashmir issue displaying statesmanship.
Her formula reads: "Vajpayee ji (Atal Bihari Vajpayee) offered a hand of friendship to Pakistan before the 2004 elections and announced a ceasefire on the border. A big leader does not think about elections, he thinks about the people…J&K has been the biggest challenge for any Prime Minister of the country. Whichever Prime Minister resolves this issue within the ambit of humanity, stop bloodshed and improve the situation with Pakistan, his name will be written in golden letters in the annals of history".
Her formula was also coupled with an appeal: "I would like to make an appeal to Narendra Modi ji. Pakistan is getting a new government and a new Prime Minister. He (Imran Khan) has made an offer of friendship with India through a dialogue. I want to appeal to PM Modi to respond positively to the offer".
What actually does Mehbooba Mufti asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do? She actually asked him to compromise the age-old stand of India on Jammu & Kashmir and accommodate Pakistan's territorial and geo-political and religious claim. In other words, she asked Narendra Modi to recognize Pakistan a real stakeholder in this part of the state so that its geo-political interests are accommodated. She, in effect, wants Narendra Modi to forget the 2019 general elections and act like a statesman so that the 70-year-old conflict between India and Pakistan was resolved.
Narendra Modi is a shrewd politician. He knows what the nation did to Vajpayee in 2004 because of his weak-kneed Pakistan and Kashmir policy. The nation defeated Vajpayee. His "Insaniyat, Jamhuriyat and Kashmiriyat" doctrine had infuriated the BJP's core constituency, as it was the negation of those cardinal principles statecraft. Narendra Modi knows that if he goes by the Mehbooba Mufti line, he and his BJP would be comprehensively defeated. He feels the nation's pulse.
It was not for nothing that it was the Prime Minister himself who took the decision to bring down the coalition government of Mehbooba Mufti on June 19. It's not a secret that Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP national president Amit Shah and Ram Madhav, one of the architects of the PDP-BJP agenda of alliance, were not aware of what Narendra Modi had thought about the alliance with Mehbooba Mufti. The Prime Minister and National Security Advisors only knew. The Prime Minister knew that the alliance with PDP had dent the party's image at the national level and keeping alliance with Mehbooba Mufti intact would be ensure the BJP's defeat.
If Mehbooba Mufti thinks that he would go with her, then she is clearly living in a fool's paradise. Narendra Modi is not going to oblige her as going with her would mean the re-rise of the Congress party.
