Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 13: Mocking at the high sounding statements of the NC leader and former Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that Farooq should not stake his precious life to defend the controversial provision of 35-A as this was not their baby but was incorporated in the Constitution in 1954, at the behest of Jawahar Lal Nehru who was pampering the then State Prime Minister Bakshi Ghulam Mohd and his colleagues as they were feeling uneasy after deposing and jailing Sheikh Mohd Abdullah and his chums in their getting in bewildered. But having their floating a new outfit under the title of Kashmir Plebiscite Front, these strayed politicians had termed 35-A as a sop of little significance. Prof. Gupta said that to generate heat and try to add fuel to the fire in the troubled Valley by the politicians after being out of power by saying too much about the retaining of 35-A. About these high sounding statements, Prof. Gupta said the issue is before highest court of the country to determine the validity of the provision but the fiery utterances of the politicians do not look nice, especially from those who are under oath of the constitution.
Prof. Gupta regretted that certain politicians were trying to spread communal virus on the issue despite their masquerading as secular but for gaining their lost ground by indulging in controversial rants and threats which ran counter to the national interest though these getting catchy headlines, moreso in defining the law.
