Factionalism in Cong: Senior leaders skip meeting convened by Mir

Jammu, Aug 19: Senior leaders were conspicuously absent from the crucial meetings called by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president G A Mir in connection with the preparations for Panchayats, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Parliament and Assembly polls. Today meetings of different assembly segments of Chhamb, Billawar, Basohli, Kalakote and Vijaypur were held but leaders only one faction were present.
Credible sources in the Congress said that infighting in the Congress has been intensified after announcement of new district presidents because party leadership has failed to maintain the balance. Instead of taking all senior leaders on the board before announcing district presidents, PCC chief impose some district presidents who do not mass base.
Credible sources said today meeting of five important assembly segments were held but party leadership failed to ensure participation of all groups and factions. In the last assembly polls, Congress had lost elections from all these seats.
Today's meeting was former Dy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Former Ministers & Vice President Mula Ram and Raman Bhalla, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, General Secretary Manmohan Singh, DCC President Kathua & Former Minister Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, DCC President Rajouri & Former Minister Shabir Ahmed Khan, DCC President Samba & Former Minister S. Manjit Singh, DCC President Jammu Rural Hari Singh Chib, Former MLA Basohli Jagdish Raj Spolia, Former MLA Kalakote Ashok Sharma, Dr. Rasheed Choudhary were among those who addressed.
