'Tainted' Prof elevated as dean of Arts in Jammu university

Jammu, Sept 8: In a controversial decision, a professor who is already accused of large scale bungling at Kishtwar Campus during his tenure as director there, has been appointed as Dean faculty of Arts, University of Jammu.
This year on July 25, when Professor MK Dhar took over as Vice Chancellor University of Jammu, it was assumed that only those persons who have a clean track record will be given responsibilities of important posts at University of Jammu.
But the recent decision of the varsity to appoint a tainted Professor as Dean Faculty of Arts has raised many eyebrows on the function and line of action of the newly appointed VC.
As per the order issued by Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar University of Jammu, Prof (name withheld) from the Department of Urdu will act as Dean of Faculty of Arts.
The order issued dated 05/09/2018 vide order No. F.Acd/II/18/9270-9349 reads as, "Ït is notified for the information of all the concerned the Vice Chancellor in exercise of the power vested on him under section 19 (I0 of the Kashmir and Jammu University Act1969has been pleased to nominate Prof (name withheld) to act as Dean Faculty of Arts till further orders."
According to the highly placed sources within the University of Jammu, there are serious allegations of large scale corruption against the said professor when he was heading the Kishtwar Campus.
"During his tenure as Director Kishtwar Campus , he was involved in large scale bungling , large amount was used in local purchase without inviting tenders," said a Professor adding further the present Director of the campus Prof Haq Nawaz Sheikh has forwarded a "detailed dossier along with evidences against his predecessor but no action was taken by the then Vice Chancellor."
"But the most surprising part is that instead of initiating action, the present dispensation awarded him with a prize posting," said a delegation of senior professors at Jammu university.
Prof Haq Nawaz Shiekh soon after taking over as Director Kishtwar Campus, had ordered an "inquiry into the alleged bungling in back door appointments, permission for canteen inside the Campus and illegal purchase." "Large amount was spent without inviting tenders, there are huge irregularities in purchase , allotment of work," said a professor adding that the way funds were utilized in the Kishtwar Campus during his tenure clearly indicates that all the rules meant for the purchase were ignored to embezzle the funds.
Despite repeated attempts the Jammu VC couldn't be contacted for comments.
