| Voting is the most precious right of every citizen, and we have a moral obligation to ensure the integrity of our voting process - Hillary Clinton. India is a constitutional democracy with a parliamentary system of government, and at the heart of the system is a commitment to hold regular, free and fair elections. To make democracy work, we must be a nation of participants, not simply observers. You're not just voting for an individual, in my judgment, you're voting for an agenda. You're voting for a platform. One who does not vote has no right to complain. Politics, I still think is a cluster of fabricators and a flock of egomania. It's not about the population: it's about themselves and their rise to power. It is the hard reality and requires self-absorption by one and all that engage in the largest festival of 'Democracy' the "Elections" that as soon as the elections end slavery begins. Here we have to comprehend that voting is paramount authority, responsibility as well as right of citizens in our society to elect a Government that affects every facet of our lives from schools to health care to homeland security. Though it is understood to be our fundamental right, it also comes with a huge responsibility. We need to exercise our right and responsibility. It is our duty to make a wise and informed decision to choose the right candidate so that there will be good governance in our country. Here we have to understand whether actually we are wise enough to elect our representative in the Lok Sabha or State Assembly? As by electing our classic, we are making our voice heard and registering our point of view on how we expect the government should conduct. But had ever such elected representatives courteous to their words while trotting from door to door listening and committing the statements? The feedback is 'never at all' and this acknowledgement requires us to undergo self examination whether "Are we wise enough to elect representatives" because the moment they are voted to power they become monarchs and those voting them as their subjects to rule upon". Deciding which candidate to vote into office is simply a matter of party affiliation for many people. Others, however, cast their votes based on specific characteristics they look for in their candidate of choice. So what are the qualities or characteristics that balloters should look in good political leaders is a matter of awareness. In our scrutiny the person not involved in any scam or facing charges in corruption cases is branded as an honest man and who have no criminal case is regarded as clean man. Whereas we never use our senses to realize that when such honest man or clean man occupying the top slots and responsible for in and out of every one in party fold or in the Ministries shield the corrupt one and accommodate those facing criminal charges in Government as Ministers so such honest and clean man can very well be placed in the category of morally corrupt and criminal in absentia. Honesty develops character and builds credibility and trust, which are the foundation to evoke confidence and respect. But one is constitutionally bound to respect these corrupt and criminals although he doesn't morally accept them worthy of respect. Good political leaders never use compassion to see the needs of those they lead and to determine the course of action that would be of greatest benefit to all those involved. But wicked politicians always work ticklish towards 'vote bank politics' and their schemes are directed to benefit those, who are great vote catchers for these political parties. We can rightly admit that we never use our senses while mandating for such element as the candidates are thrust upon us by the party presidents. Voting well means making our choice from a standpoint of informed consideration and with an eye toward the common good and we should vote for everyone's best interest. But it's well known that our conscious decisions are routinely influenced by emotions and prejudices created by contestants and we never apply our senses to arrive at the right decision. Our political views narrow down as we completely rely on news from social media that is always on sale and purchase by political parties. It would not be out of place to mention that all the media presentations cumulatively do strike the mindset of an individual causing to lose our own sensibility to decide the best options. It is the time when a common man attains significance, because at the end of the day, it is this vote which counts. So right from the date of announcements of elections till actual casting of vote, a balloter is king maker and as soon as the voting is over the voters are treated as slaves by the elected one. Therefore to say when the election ends the monarchial position is assumed by the elected and slavery begins for the common man is the right analysis. The big question then is how do we decide who to vote for? It is indeed down to our individual perspective about what do we actually desire out of our vote and this self interest based decision takes us away from using our common senses and fall prey to the trap of the parties and their candidates. The illiterate voters never understand the importance of electoral system in our society and the power of the vote that has to be cast after five years. The poverty, unemployment, illiteracy levels indicate the inefficiency of our political system. Even after 70 years of our independence, our people suffer from lack of basic amenities and all this the outcome of lack of education that is a stumbling block in application of the senses for a right decision, while actually casting the vote, thereby inefficient candidates become victorious. The contents of the affidavit submitted at the time of nomination by contesting candidates is not put into public domain and voters never become aware of their criminal involvements as such we fail to differentiate between rights and wrong candidate while casting vote, thereby even a criminals becomes victorious by the muscle and money power rather than their works, conducts or ideals.
It is high time that we should use our best senses well in time to be aware about some required qualities of contesting candidate such as: honesty and integrity, decision making capabilities, creativity and innovation, way of treating everyone, whether trustworthy, educational standard, back ground of the candidate etc. By application of best senses we can discover whether a contesting candidate is befooling us by such commitments that apparently appear not to be implemented, as we have seen during 2014 of depositing Rs. fifteen lacks in every individual account, bringing black money from foreign countries back in India within 100 days and many more. By use of our best senses we can well understand the hollow boasts like bringing ten heads for one, hoisting 'Tringa' in PoK, continuous exploiting the 'Babri Masjid - Ram Janam Bhoomi' issue, crores of jobs to unemployed and but not. The tested horses can well be balanced for these commitments and hollow slogans and such parties/candidates falling in such frame of commitments and hollow slogans should be thrown out by way of use of 'NOTA' option and this will be regarded as that 'we are wise enough to elect our representatives.' Belief in oneself and knowing who you are, that's the foundation for everything great. Concluding with the words of John Quincy Adams "Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost". In this way you can escape to respect those corrupt and criminals if they stand elected representatives. This way we can change the perception that where elections end slavery begins. |
