High Court asks state to improve facilities in Government hospitals

JAMMU, Sept 22: In a Public Interest Litigation filed by S Ravinder Singh regarding better facilities in government hospitals a Division Bench of High Court Comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta directed the state to ensure that doctors, paramedical staff, nursing orderlies are provided in the Government Hospitals to ensure that the best treatment is made available to the patients.
The Division Bench also directed the state to ensure one specialized doctor is made available in the different medical units to tackle the emergent situation, which may arise. The Division Bench made these observations after hearing advocate Parveen Kapahi for the PIL and advocate K D S Kotwal for the State.
The Division Bench directed respondents to file compliance with regard to directions issued today once in every three months before the Registry of this Court.
As the PIL came-up for hearing, Division Bench asked the respondents to provide best medical treatment by providing best doctors, paramedical staff and nursing orderlies, medicines and make available diagnostic machines available for emergency patients and also for the patients who had met with accidents.
The respondents were asked to maintain proper stock of medicines which is easily accessible to the patients including various equipments required for treatment of patients.
They were asked to keep at least one specialist doctor on call available round the clock in the hospitals in different medical units especially in emergency so that needy patients may not be deprived of urgent medicare facility.
