UDHAMPUR, Oct 10: A number of voters returned home without casting their votes after finding their names missing in the voter list in wards that went to polls today in Udhampur.
The disappointed voters approached the polling officials but all in vain. They could not exercise their franchise.
Displaying his voter ID card, a voter told early times that he had cast his vote during parliamentary elections four years ago. "But today I found my name missing from the electoral rolls. I was not allowed to cast my vote by the polling officials in a booth housed by forest office here," he said.
He was not the only person to return disappointed. His wife also could not vote for similar reasons. And, there were others with similar stories.
According to him, the district administration launched a number of exercises to get the voters enlisted. "I and my wife and a number of persons had not been enlisted for unknown reasons," he said.
To add to the woes of the disappointed voters, there was no assistance anywhere in the town. "There was total chaos outside the booths as persons carrying EPICs were seen running here and there to cast their votes. The chaos busted the claims of election preparedness by the district authorities," a dejected shopkeeper who could not cast his vote said.
