Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 14: In what could be termed as major embarrassment to former PDP- BJP coalition government, the state failed to retrieve 3000 kanals land of wakaf from encroachers in Jammu region in three years.
As per the document available with Early Times, nearly 2929 Kanals and 01 marlas land of wakaf was illegally encroached in seven districts of Jammu region. Most of the encroachers are influential people close proximity to power corridors, but the former government did not even serve a legal notice to them.
The document further reveals that the maximum wakaf land was illegally encroached in district Kathua, measuring 611 Kanals and 11 marlas, followed by Poonch district with 493 kanals and 17 marlas.
"Rajouri having 408 kanals and 06 marlas and Samba have 100 kanals and 19 marlas whereas in Kisthwar district measuring 74 kanals, Udhampur 31 kanals and in Doda district 09 kanals land of wakaf were encroached by illegal occupants", said sources wishing anonymity.
Sources further said that however, the Auqaf department claimed that merely 210 Kanals and 10 Marlas land have been retrieved from the encroachers in financial year 2017-18.
"During the tenure of former government, the wakaf board served legal notice to some of the illegal occupants but they got stayed from the High Court and now the board is least bothered to contest the case in the court", said another source.
