Global Handwashing Day Celebrated | | | Early Times Report reasi, Oct 15: Global Handwashing Day was celebrated with much joy and fervor by Anganwari workers in their respective centres of Reasi Block and Arnas Block of District Reasi. As Poshan Abhiyaan has also been running for the past six month in this District which is now scaled up to 9 Districts of state. With an aim to reduce Malnourishment (Stunting, Wasting and Low Birth Weight) among children and anemia among children, adolescents and PW&LM (Pregnant Women and Lactating Mother) through Behavioral Change component under POSHAN Abhiyaan. Building on this component, Global Handwashing Day was celebrated here, with an aim to promote best hygiene and sanitation practices among community members. World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 50% of malnutrition is associated with repeated diarrhoea or intestinal worm infections as a result of unsafe water, inadequate sanitation or insufficient hygiene. While there has been considerable progress in ensuring safe drinking water, ensuring universal access to sanitation and improving hygiene practices remains a key challenge. Keeping these considerations in mind, ICDS in convergence with Health, JK-SRLM (Self-Help Groups), PRI, and Education department is spearheading POSHAN Abhiyaan across nine districts to reduce malnourishment from communities living in J&K. On this Occasion Child Dev. Project Officer Arnas and Reasi, Ramesh Chander, emphasized on the importance of adopting best/benchmarked hygiene practices and also requested people to inculcate Behavioral change in context of sanitation, hygiene and safe drinking water. |
