BJP fails to convince voters in Leh, failure to fulfill poll promises gave setback to party
10/20/2018 10:20:49 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 20: Notwithstanding the party's claims to make inroads in Himalayan range of Ladakh, BJP suffered a humiliating defeat in Leh Municipal Corporation of Ladakh region.
The party was pushed to wall by Congress which proved that the far-flung reaches of the State are still it's strongholds and there can be no comparison to party in the Himalayan region.
Sources said BJP' s main cause for its dismal performance in Leh was its failure to fulfill its promise in granting UT status to Ladakh as demanded by Ladakh Buddhist Association, opening of Kailas Mansarovar road via Ladakh, bringing Bodhi language in 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution etc.
Sources said BJP earlier had agreed to these demands in principle when party was not in power at Centre but after coming to power BJP showed a lukewarm response to these demands which resulted into simmering resentment against the party in Ladakh region.
Moreover the differences of party MP from the region who enjoys a good rapport in Leh has also been away from campaigning for the party.
Sources said BJP MP from Leh has been silent over past some time after feeling sidelined by the party High Command. Sources hold BJP,'s former Minister and sitting MLC also responsible for party's debacle in Leh and alleged that he as well as BJP,'s LAHDC, Leh representatives also failed to maintain a good contact with people of the area in comparison to strategic campaigning by Congress and it's leadership.
The BJP prahabri for Ladakh can't be absolved of the responsibility as they could not maintain a liaison between people and party leadership.
