Seminar on "Sustainable Chemistry" organized in GDC Kathua

Kathua, Nov 2: A one day Seminar on "Sustainable Chemistry is the only alternative for better future" was Organized by Department of Chemistry , Government Degree College Kathua and sponsored by J&K State Science, Technology and Innovation Council.
Principal of the College Prof. K.C. Badgal in his inaugural address laid emphasis on new methods to be invented for reducing the Chemical waste. He said that such Chemical wastes are a source of health hazard. He said that this seminar shall definitely bring some positive change in reducing waste products. Prof. Kamal K. Kapoor from Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu presented a very thought provoking lecture on ''Attainable Sustainable Goals". He also talked about importance of catalysis in our Daily Life. Dr. Parvinder Pal Singh, Senior Scientist CSIR-IIIM, Jammu presented a talk on "Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry". He also discussed about anti-Cancer drugs which can be obtained from plants and serpents.
Shruti Khanna of J&K State Science, Technology and Innovation Council , and Programme Coordinator of Seminar appreciated the efforts of Chemistry Department for organizing such a wonderful Seminar. Earlier Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia in his welcome address gave a detail of the various achievements of the Department of Chemistry. He said that the Department is regularly organizing seminars and conferences for better academic growth.
In his Vote of thanks Prof Rakesh Singh also thanked J&K State Science, Technology and Innovation Council for providing whole hearted support and cooperation in organizing this event. About 200 participants from GDC Kathua, GCW Kathua, GDC Samba, Cluster University Jammu, GDC Hiranagar and GDC Basholi participated in the Seminar. The students also presented Posters on Sustainable Chemistry.
Sushmita Devi of GDC, Kathua and Niharika of GCW , Kathua got first Prize in Poster Presentation. Deepika Sharma, Raksha Lalotra, Priyanka, Shivani of GDC Kathua and Sushmita Kattal of GDC Samba were adjudged second. Third Prize was bagged by Rishu, Sonika Verma and Shabini Devi of GDC Kathua. Prof. Kamal K. Kapoor, Dr. Parvinder Pal Singh and Dr. Sumita Dham were Jury Members in Poster Presentation Session.
The Organizing Committee of Seminar comprised of Prof Sumanesh (Convener), Prof. Rakesh Singh (Organizing Secretary), Dr. Anupma Arora, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Dr. Ambica, Dr. Kehar Singh, Dr. Nisha, Dr. Aditi, Dr. Swati, Nipunn, Vaishali, and Surinder Kumar.
