Fake godman accused in rape case arrested from Varanasi

Reasi, Nov 3: Reasi police today claimed to have arrested a godman in rape case. Police spokesman said that today Reasi Police achieved a major success in apprehending a fake godman Swami Brahmanand Saraswati of Mathura. The said accused had absconded after committing rape on a minor girl (name withheld) resident of Panassa Village in District Reasi where he was putting up since last 20 years and had made many followers in the area. Spokesman said that the minor girl on 6 -10- 2018 reported the incident in Police Station Reasi along with her parents that the said Swami had committed rape on her and threatened her of dire consequences that if she disclosed it to anybody else. Spokesman further said that on receipt of this complaint a case FIR no. 177 /18 under section 376 of RPC was registered and Reasi police swung into action. Meanwhile, the minor victim delieverd a female child which was born on the same day. The victim's statement was got recorded in the court of law and a manhunt for the accused was launched. On the basis of surveillance of mobile phones and help from locals the suspected location of the accused was traced to Varanasi. After getting this input a special team comprising of SI Nitin Khajuria, SI Tribhawan khajuria and others was immediately rushed to the location of Jhansi, in UP where the team after reaching got to know the exact whereabouts of the accused and proceeded to Abhay Sanyas Ashram, Manikaran Ghat, Varanasi in UP.
The team also sought the help of local police and succeeded in arresting the accused, who had taken shelter in the said Ashram and had disguised his looks by shaving his head and beard.The Said accused was immediately taken on 4 days transit remand from a the honable court in Varanasi and brought to the jurisdiction of Police Station Reasi for further investigation.The said arrest was made by the strenuous efforts of special team and SHO Reasi Inspector Ashwani Sharma under the direct supervision of DySP Hqrs. Reasi-Dr.Nikhil Gogna , Shiv Kumar Chauhan-Addl. SP reasi and under the overall command of Nisha Nathyal-SSP Reasi.
