Ashamed of being born in this country
What improved after Modi Said?
11/5/2018 10:39:07 PM
Mahadeep Singh Jamwal

It is the psychology of the hu-
man nature to forget very soon some hard words, when we are thrown into soft paddling of oratory. It is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy but all things live forever, though at times they sleep and are forgotten. But there are many words that always knock at the eardrum and the words of PM Mr. Modi that Indians were apparently ashamed of being born in their country in 2015, are among them that require analysis whether the narrative of these words have changed in 2018. The comment had caused uproar throughout the internet that trended across twitter and still resonate on search engines and can be seen quite clearly as the Hash tag called #ModiInsultsIndia. The trending across twitter stood at relevant time as testimony to just how outraged people felt at the Prime Minister's callous comment on foreign soil. It is not out of context to put in some of the comments still finding space on search engines. "Respect d PM's chair, but I can't respect a self-obsessed person who glorifies himself at the cost of my nation! Sorry!" #ModiInsultsIndia - 6:50 AM - May 19, 2015, "India was not ashamed despite your shenanigans in Gujarat. India is more, much more than you can ever understand" #ModiInsultsIndia -7:37 AM - May 19, 2015, "Calls himself a nationalist wearing GUCCI suit, BVLGARI glasses, LV shawl Calls himself a patriot feeling ashamed of India" #ModiInsultsIndia - 9:37 AM - May 19, 2015, "Just talked to Brahma. He's not ashamed to have been born Indian either" #ModiInsultsIndia - 9:38 AM - May 19, 2015, "Speak for yourself Sir. Strictly Yourself" #ModiInsultsIndia -10:42 AM - May 19, 2015, "Prime Minister should maintain the dignity of the post and should not try to play dirty politics everywhere" #ModiInsultsIndia - 11:41 PM - May 18, 2015, "Why is this surprising? He has been an embarrassment to this country since 2002" #ModiInsultsIndia - 2:15 PM - May 19, 2015, "Dear PM, India is not getting importance abroad bcoz of you, infect u r getting importance abroad bcoz of India only" #ModiInsultsIndia - 4:06 PM - May 19, 2015. The comments on twitter are outcome of nationalistic minds and not of pseudo secular forces or from opposing idealistic in politics.
Leaving aside the above controversy, let us consolidate, what has transpired betwixt 2014 to 2018, to feel proud to be born on Indian soil and that we can plug in as bestowed by Modi led BJP government. It has been four years and five months Modi-led BJP government assumed office. The clock is ticking by and yet most of promises which he made during his election campaigning are yet to be fulfilled. The promises made by Narendra Modi have now left the citizens bewildered and confused. The government seems to have bitten off more than they can chew. A good economy meets everyone's basic needs. It means people are healthy and happy with life.
n When we trot on employment aspect India's employment scenario or job market reliable data is missing. There is no credible source which can tell us that under the current BJP regime how many jobs have been created and what the unemployment scenario in the country. Bibek Debroy, members of the NITI Aayog and Chairman of the 'Prime Minister Economic Advisory Council' admitted that "there is no accurate figure about jobs or employment created in India currently and the available data is old". In this context, if we talk about the available data on jobs, the most recent one is 'Labor Bureau Survey', unemployment rate in India was record low of 3.41 percent in 2014 that increased to 3.70% in 2015-16. Last month, In January 2018, during a brainstorming session of 40 economists organized by NITI Aayog, it was suggested that 20% of India's youth was unemployed.
n When we shift our focus to the cost of living it is an average expects to incur to acquire food, shelter, transportation, energy, clothing, education, healthcare, child care in different regions. How many goods and services does a person purchase in a certain location from a given sum of money? An international survey speaks that India was rating at number 102 in 2013 that increased to number 122 of 128 countries in the year 2016 and at number 120 in 2017.
n Every third MP in the 16th Lok Sabha (186 Indian Members of Parliament) has criminal charges, 34 per cent of the winning candidates are faced with criminal charges. It was 30 per cent in 2009 and 24 per cent in 2004. BJP is leading the chart with as many as 98 winning candidates (35 per cent) out of total 282, are facing While, 8 out of total 44 candidates of Congress are facing criminal charges, in AIADMK 6 out of 37 winners have been booked by police in some cases or other, the percentage of candidates facing criminal charges is highest in Shiv Sena as its 15 candidates out of the total 18 are booked in some cases or other, and Trinamool Congress' 7 out of 34 winners are facing criminal charges. No any legislature have been thought necessary by Modi government to ban the entry of persons with criminal record into the parliament or state assemblies, that would have been credited as major reformation in democratic set up. We cannot expect even next Lok Sabha free of criminals. In corruption index we stand at number 81 of 180 countries.
n The index, by Transparency International, which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and business people, uses a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean and we have scored just 40. '
n World Press Freedom Index 2018' compiled by Reporters without Borders - RSP - Reporters sans frontiers), reflects growing animosity towards journalists. India ranked among 180 countries at number 133 in 2016 that slipped to lowly 136 in 2017 and it further dropped from 136 to 138 in 2018.
n On the betterment of democracy, India that was ranking at No 27 in the list of 165 countries in annual Global Democracy Index of the year 2014, slipped to a position of 35 in 2015 just in the first year after Modi led BJP government came into power and it has further dropped to lesser position degraded by 15 positions to number 42 in 2017.
When we speak of Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, we have never heard a single word about slum dwellers living in most unhygienic and very poor conditions and this flagship program has been spoken by common man as nothing more than a photo show and wastage of money as still India is a heap of garbage. Some of the slums that find mention as biggest in India are: Dharavi in Mumbai (India) slums lack the basic necessities like clean water, electricity and sanitation, its inhabitants are mostly the labor classes who work hard but earn low. Bhalswa slums Delhi, About 24 percent of Delhi's population is said to live in slums. Nochikuppam Slum, Chennai: It is home to around five thousand people who live below poverty line. The people here struggle to even have two meals a day. Basanti Slum, Kolkata: It is one of the major slum areas. One third of Kolkata's population lives these slums. Rajendra Nagar Slum, Bangalore: Bangalore alone holds 570 slums from a total of around 2000 slums in the State. It is estimated that about 20 percent of Bangalore population reside in slums. Saroj Nagar Slum, Nagpur: Approximately 40 percent of the population in Nagpur is said to live in slums. These slums are home to about a lakh people. Parivartan Slum, Ahmadabad: Ahmadabad is home to a large population of poor people. The river side slums in Ahmadabad are about 40 years old.
Concluding a bit of mentions in the foregoing lines, and leaving aside some betterments in the field of ease of doing business, nothing has changed as to feel proud to be born in India and Modi led government has failed to raise the living standard of a common man although much welfare schemes are in resonance but at the ground level as it is. Moreover self praise and condemn others is the basic concept to propagate the results of the present regime.
