Early Times Report

Poonch, Nov 14: Notwithstanding the tall claims of district administration Kalaban area of sub division Mendhar craves for the basic amenities, sources said here today. They said the water supply to this hilly area was very poor as the main supply lines which have been laid 16 years ago were rusted and leaking at various spots forcing locals to drink contaminated water. Public Health Engineering department seems to be in deep slumber as the issue was brought in its notice several times but nothing concrete was done, they added. Like wise the education scenario in the area was also in dilapidated condition. The primary, middle and high schools operating in the area lacks the required staff who according to locals have been attached despite blanket ban imposed on the attachment of teahers by the Governor of the state. In the absence of teachers the schools mostly remain closed and local children have to suffer for theirs no fault, sources further added. According to locals who blamed the authorities for poor medical facilities said there was no medicines available in the PHCs One has to go Mendhar to fetch medicines which takes a full day time. Under these circumstance one can easily understand that what type of the life people are living in such a hilling area. The area has no electric poles. The main supply lines have been stretched through trees which is an open threat to the lives of the people but the Power Development Department has failed to install electric poles in the area. The lackadaisical approach of the department was condemnable the source further added. Social activist of the area while talking to Early Times have urged the district administration to take the stock of problems being faced by the locals of remote Kalaban in Mendhar sub division and redress them on the priority as people have been suffering due to official apathy.
