Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 21: In a major setback to the BJP, that too in its state president Ravinder Raina's home constituency, his close aide and relatives have lost the Panchayat elections.
According to sources, Raina spent three nights campaigning for the BJP-backed candidates, but the party suffered setback, as most of the candidates lost elections.
Mohinder Paul Sudan, a BJP candidate from Lamberi East and a close aide of Ravinder Raina, lost election by 53 votes to his opponent and Congress-backed Kishori Dutt Sharma", sources said.
Sudan, who is considered next to MLA Raina in Nowshera constituency, and has made several important decisions on his behalf, could not convince the voters.
Sources that sidelining other workers, MLA's aide made his fortune using his connections, and has recently purchased huge land in Phagwara, Punjab.
They further said that from Chack Jarrala Panchyat, MLA's maternal uncle also suffered humiliating defeat. "Tirth Ram Sharma, maternal uncle of Ravinder Raina and also his Personal Assistant, bagged 165 votes, while his opponent, the Congress backed Pichori Dutt Sharma (retired lecturer) got 498 votes", sources said and added that people from Nowshera-Sunderbani constituency still have respect for Master Beli Ram Sharma's legacy who was MLA for 30 years.
Some candidates had sought votes on the name Master Ji. "Dr Ram Chander Sharma, (retired Joint Director Sheep Husbandry) had urged the voters to consider him like Masterji, and that he will deliver if voted to power," said sources, adding that Dr Sharma's appeals worked and he won elections by bagging 553 votes.
Sources said that in Dandesar Panchyat, an RSS Karyakarta, lost elections by huge margin of over 500 votes. "Congress-backed candidate Suraj Praksh Sharma (Pappu Shah) won election from Dandesar Panchyat by securing more than 500 votes, defeating RSS-backed Satish Kumar who got just 62 votes", said sources.
