SRINAGAR, Nov 23: J&K cricket team registered its first win in the ongoing Ranji Trophy group stage here on Friday by defeating Tripura by eight wickets at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Cricket Stadium. It was the first win for the J&K Ranji team in three matches. They had lost their first match against Rajasthan by 75 runs and second match against Goa ended in a draw, however, on the basis of first-innings lead, Goa was awarded three points. Earlier, on the fourth day of the J&K-Tripura match, team Tripura resumed at 233 for the loss of four wickets. They were trailing by 78 runs. But due to the bad light, the play was stopped and had to resume after the lunch. A 100-run partnership, between Pratyush Singh and Subham Ghosh, was broken by Umar Nazir while rest of the wickets fell after one and another. Smit Patel, wicketkeeper, scored a ton for Tripura but could not save his team to set a stiff target for J&K. Smit Patel hit fourteen boundaries and one six in his century knock. His wicket was grabbed by J&K captain Parvez Rasool. Wickets kept tumbling regularly after Patel's departure and Tripura innings folded at the score of 358 thereby setting a target of 43 runs for J&K team to win. With just 43 runs to win, team Jammu and Kashmir lost their first wicket at one run in the form of Dev Singh and another wicket at 35 runs. Shubam Khajuria scored the winning runs for his team. Ahmed Banday of J&K was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant ton of 136. J&K is placed on seventh spot with 7 points in three matches with one win, one draw and one loss in group C. Team J&K will play next with Services on November 28. |
