Military aid cut indicates US anger against Pakistan
11/23/2018 11:12:33 PM
The United States of America con
tinues to believe firmly that Pakistan has proved a safe haven for terrorists and that is the reason for trouble torn Afghanistan and the Kashmir valley. The anger of the US is so acute against Pakistan that Washington has suspended 1.66 billion dollars in security assistance to Pakistan after President Donald Trump's directive, the Pentagon has said, in what experts believe is a strong signal of American frustration. The Pentagon's statement came days after President Trump said Pakistan did not do "a damn thing" for the US, alleging that its government had helped Al-Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden hide near its garrison city of Abbottabad.. The US has, therefore, suspended 1.66 billion dollars of security assistance to Pakistan No further breakdown of the suspended security assistance to Pakistan was provided.
According to David Sedney, who served as Deputy Assistant Secretary Defence for Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia during the previous Obama administration, the blocking of military assistance to Pakistan, which began in January this year, is a strong signal of American frustration. The US President, Donald Trump, had repeatedly appealed to Pakistan to initiate action against the terrorists especially belonging to the Haqqani group but Islamabad refused to respond to Trump's suggestion. This way Trump has taken a bold step by blocking military aid to Pakistan which may force Islamabad either to initiate action against terrorists or fall in the lap of China..Beijing has, since the rise of Donald Trump as American President, been the main country which has been providing military assistance to Pakistan. In September last the US has confirmed its 300 million dollar cut in military aid to Pakistan. And two months ago Donald Trump had accused Pakistan of its anti-US policy under which Islamabad had not rendered any help to Washington in taming terrorists in Pakistan and Afghanistan. When Islamabad took no steps to eliminate terrorists when the US had imposed 300 million dollar cut in military aikd the anger of Trump was visible and that anger has been manifested by imposing 1.66 billion dollar cut in security assistance. And the US has imposed the cut only to force Pakistan to initiate action against terrorists.. But Pakistan Army seem to be scared of launching a massive operation against terrorists, especially the Taliban, because Islamabad is aware of the anger of these terrorists who may refuse to operate either in Afghanistan or in Kashmir.
