Panchayat elections: Heavy polling reported in Rajouri
12/4/2018 10:09:42 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Dec 4: Amid allegations of booth capturing, 84 % polling has been recorded in three hilly blocks in Rajouri district namely Budhal, Rajnagar and Khawas.
Three candidates for the sarpanch seats for Panchyat Halqa Samote in Budhal in an application to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajouri have alleged booth capturing at two polling booths (ward No.1 & 2) at Samote and demanded cancellation of the polling.
When contacted Sher Singh Thakur, ADC , who also rushed to Samote after information of polling was stopped , said that it was due to misunderstanding of CEO's directions that few voters left the booth without polling.
He added that due to printing mistake on ballot papers for the election of ward No.1 & 2 of Samote Panchayat, the polling for these two wards was stopped on the directions from CEO, J&K.
"He also issued directions to continue polling for the sarpanch seat and for remaining 5 panch constituencies (wards) of Samote Panchyat halqa. People (voters) were accordingly informed about CEO's directions including re-polling for two cancelled wards on December 8" said Sher Singh, ADC.
He refuted the allegations of the candidates for sarpanch seat and said the polling was held peacefully and the ballot boxes have been kept in the strong room of the treasury and counting will take place on December 8 after re-polling in two wards.
For 35 seats of sarpanches and 283 constituencies of Panches in Budhal block there were 43455 eligible candidates including 20332 females out of which36632 have cast their votes including 17882 women.
For 11 sarpanch and 91 panch constituencies in Rajnagar block out of 14548 eligible candidates 12474 have cast their votes including 6095 women.
In Khawas panchayat for 15 sarpanch and 121 panch constituencies 16098 including 7610 have cast their votes out of eligible 19612 voters.
