JKSIC goes defunct: Post of CIC, SIC Jammu vacant | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 9: Despite amendment in Jammu and Kashmir State Information Commission (JKSIC) to facilitate appointment of State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and State Information Commissioners (SICs) during the Governor's Rule or Presidents Rule, two major positions i.e. CIC and SIC are vacant increasing number of pending cases manifold. Hailing, recent decision of State Administrative Council (SAC) headed by Governor Satya Pal Malik for enactment of the 'Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Ankush a RTI activist, said he hoped that soon the vacant positions in commission be filed to streamline derailed SIC to strengthen 'transparency' in functioning of system. "Post of CIC is vacant since June 2018, after induction of Khurshid A Ganai, Chief Information Commissioner, as Advisor to Governor, while the post of State Information Commissioner, Jammu is vacant since October 2015, after retirement Dr. S.K. Sharma", he said. He further said that since June 2018, the pendency of cases/appeals of information seekers from Jammu division. "Presently, the Commission has only SIC Mohammad Ashraf Mir, who already in past has run the commission single headedly, prior of appointment of Khurshid A Ganai, Chief Information Commissioner, on February 2017", he said and added that the commission remained defunct when another Information Commissioner Nazir Ahmad retired in November 2016. "However, the SIC Mohammad Asharf Mir, doing his best, but non availability of CIC and another SIC, it injustice, as RTI appellants / complainants have to wait for months before their case is listed for hearing", he added. He appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to fill both position in next meeting of State Administrative Council. |
