ACB, SVC fail to observe world Anti-Corruption Day
12/11/2018 10:55:59 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 11: At a time when Governor administration is trying to strengthen the institutions of transparency and probity in state by converting State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) into State Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), the anti-corruption institutions have failed to even organize a simple function on the eve of world anti corruption day that was commemorated across the world on December 9h recently.
J&K 's leading Anti Corruption Institutions like State Accountability Commission (SAC) and even newly created Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) failed to organize any function in J&K. Not even in winter capital ACB or SAC could hold an event.
Even last year erstwhile State Vigilance Commission (SVC) , State Vigilance Organisation and State Accountability Commission (SAC) who claim to be on the forefront of curbing the menace of corruption had failed to commemorate the Intentional Anti Corruption Day. All these agencies remain tight lipped when it comes to hold an event against corruption.
Corruption which is an established problem across the world has become an issue of serious concern for people belonging to all walks of the society. The media has been highlighting the issue every now and then and no day passes when the newspapers or news channels do not carry issues related to graft and corruption . Jammu & Kashmir state has been ranked one of the most corrupt states in India by Transparency International India. In-spite of the fact that J&K state has several organisations which are working for eradication , exposing and prevention of corruption but none of these organisations commemorated the International Anti Corruption day.
Every year an estimated 1 trillion dollars are paid in bribes while an estimated 2.6 trillion dollars are stolen annually through corruption - a sum equivalent to more than 5 per cent of the global GDP. In developing countries, according to the United Nations Development Programme, funds lost tocorruption are estimated at 10 times the amount of official development assistance.
Corruption is a serious crime that can undermine social and economic development in all societies. No country, region or community is immune.
The 2018 joint international campaign focuses on corruption as one of the biggest impediments to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year's theme on world Anti Corruption Day was "Corruption begets more corruption"
Early Times had carried a detailed report on this issue on the same day in 2016 and 2017 as no official functions were organized by Government, District administrations and anti corruption organisations from last 3 years. It was presumed that authorities will wake up this year, but unfortunately they again committed same blunder this year by not giving any respect to this day.
