7 kullas gutted in major fire at Keran Bantalab
Firefighters save 17 kullas, several lives

JAMMU, Dec 14: Valiant efforts of firefighters helped save several lives and as many as 17 kullas in a major fire that broke out here today at Keran Bantalab area in the outskirts of the city.
The inferno completely gutted 7 kullas while one kulla was partly damaged by the raging fire. One calf suffered severe injuries in the incident.
A call was received by Fire Service Station Roop Nagar in the afternoon that few kullas and a huge dump of paddy grass is on fire at Keran Bantalab. The firefighters immediately swung into action and reached the spot with a fire tender.
Keeping in view the situation another fire tender was deployed to the scene of fire after sometime while later two more fire tenders were pressed into service from Fire Service Hqrs Gandhi Nagar and Fire Station Canal.
It took nearly 5 hours to douse the flames and restrict the fire to its origin. The fire was restricted to gutted property only due to gallant and efficient fire fighting crew. A Gas cylinder also blasted in the fire while the gutted kullas suffered a huge loss as bed, bedding, refrigerator, house hold items and utensils suffered damages due to fire.
The people present appreciated the role of firefighters for restricting the fire due to which many lives and animals were timely rescued.
SDM Janipur visited the spot and appreciated firefighters for swift and timely action.
