Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 20: Blame it on the deep rooted corruption within the Rural Development Department and the PHE department, people living in Binoon Panchayat of block Bhunzwah were suffering due to lack of drinking water supply as women had to travel several kilometers to fetch water for daily needs.
Sources disclose that criminal nexus between the officials of the two departments had been instrumental in gulping pipes meant for the drinking water scheme to the area, due to which over two hundred households of Binoon were without drinking water supply.
As per the details available with ET, the PHE Department sanctioned 225 meters GI Pipes of 25 MM Diameter and 440 Meters GI Pipes of 20 MM Diameter vide indent No. RR/25/7 Dated 5-6-2018 and handed over the same to VLW Binoon namely Dilshad Ahmed for execution of further work including laying and fitting of these pipes under convergence plan through MGNREGA so that the local population get the better quality water supply to their homes at door steps, but instead of execution of the work on ground, the said VLW along with some other officials allegedly embezzled these pipes as a result of which the people of Binoon Panchayat continue to suffer for the want of drinking water.
Speaking to ET, Jaffer Hussain Zarger said that they came to know about the sanctioning of around 103 GIP Pipes of 25 MM and 20 MM Diameter after they approached the concern PHE officials over the poor water supply system in Binoon Panchayat. He said that the PHE officials inform them that the Pipes already stands provided for the same through VLW concerned but it was found that the Pipes were embezzled by the concern VLW. He said that following the expose, the People of the area also approached Immam Din, Additional District Development Commissioner Kishtwar seeking probe into the matter.
He said that the matter pertaining to withdrawal of money under convergence through MGNREGA also needs to be looked into so that guilty officials involved in embezzlement of public money could be taken to task.
Following public complaint, ADDC Kishtwar directed District Vigilance Officer (ADC Kishtwar) Pawan Kumar Parihar to examine the matter and take necessary action.
