JAMMU, Jan 31: Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha today paid rich tributes to Major Somnath Sharma, PVC, an Indian Army Officer, was the first receipient of Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration. In 1942, Sharma was commissioned into the 8th Batallion, 19th Hyderabad Regiment on his 96th Birth Anniversary by organising a function at Brahman Sabha, Parade, under the Chairmanship of Ved Parkash Sharma. The function was started with Hawan and Desh Bhakti Bajan. Large number of people from different walks of life participated in the function. While speaking on the occasion, the speakers highlighted the great sole of Major Somnath Sharma, who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport from the attack of Kabaili with the collaboration of Pak Army on November 3, 1947, by virtue of his action the Pakistani forces were flashed out up by the Indian army beyond Uri but the then Govt. Unilaterally announce the Ceasefire. Tawi Andolan Convener and Human Right Member Chander Mohan Sharma who was the Chief Guest in the function also paid rich tributes to Major Shaheed Somnath Sharma. In the function Pt. Atma Ram Sharma, Vice President of All India Freedom Fighter was also honoured by the Sabha. Among others who were also present on the occasion included Pt. Varinder Mohan Magotra, Nanak Chand Sharma, Advocate P.C. Sharma, Satya Nand Sharma, Subash Shastri, Jagan Nath Sharma, M.L. Sharma, K.L. Sharma, Pt. Somnath Sharma, Dr. Som Dutt Magotra, Surinder Sharma, Satpal Sharma, Gurdas Sharma, Girdhari Lal Sharma and others. |
