NC to make issue of identity poll campaign | | | It is identity for the National Conference. Years ago it was autonomy for the National Conference. Though majority of people did not vote to power the National Conference on the slogan of restoration of greater autonomy but the vote for power was a case of love of people for the NC. This time the National Conference has decided to make an issue of the identity of the state though majority of people are no longer worried about Article 370, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir within the union Of India. But majority of people are bothered about Article 35-A which grants citizenship rights to those born within the state. National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah has said the forthcoming elections were crucial for safeguarding the special status of the State besides deciding the scope of development for the next half of the decade. As far as Article 370 is concerned it has been already eroded with the approval of the state legislature. And now the centre can extend any law passed by Parliament to the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the approval of State legislature. The only special left to the state is now the separate flag and the constitution. Omar, has said, "People of the State this time should make clear to those sitting on power corridors in New Delhi how passionately the they feel about their identity."Identity alone is not only thing dear to people, rather voters. They want end to human rights violations and development. And the successive state Governments have fomented corruption with the result the financial aid given by the centre for various development projects is being misused and bulk of funds sent by centre is being wasted. And hence if NC is voted to power the Government should ensure that no central funds were wasted. If Omar thinks that only democractic Government could satiate development needs which indicates that during the successive state Governments democratic norms. He said that only a democratic government could satiate the developmental needs of the State, and that the Governor not being a people's representative could not decide on crucial issues that the State was facing. N.N. Vohra, when in office was a democrat by temperament. And the successive state Governors have done well than the elected Governments, "The mammoth task of putting the State back on the track of development which includes giving due representation to Pir Panchal and Chenab regions, infrastructure augmentation in health and education sector, diversification of agriculture can only be executed by a democratically-elected government with the active participation of the people," Omar has said. People have seen it all how the non participation of NC in the ULB and panchayat polls opened floodgates for such forces as are naïve toward the suffering of the people, But people had not suggested to the NC to boycott the ULB and Panchayat polls. It was the sweet will of the NC leadership. This indicates that NC will contest the Assembly election s to regain power. And possibilities for the NC to get back power are bright so that Whether Omar or Dr Farooq, who heads the Government should erase corruption and utilize funds for development project. |
