Patient loses eye doc's `negligence' at ESIC Hospital
No enquiry initiated, fear instilled in other patients
2/2/2019 11:07:07 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 2: In a glaring example of negligence, a female patient had to lose her one eye due to carelessness of a doctor at ESI Model Hospital Bari Brahmana who conducted wrong operation leaving her in a state of trauma and more shockingly despite senior doctor at GMC Jammu confirmed that the wrong operation was conducted but no inquiry was initiated against the doctor.
Sources told Early Times that the incompetence of doctor posted at ESI Model Hospital Bari Brahmana took heavy on an Insured Person' spouse who had to lose her eye due to wrong operation as a patient name Rekha Devi alias Prabhamati wife of Bhim Yadav had gone to ESI Model Hospital Bari Brahmana Jammu and Kashmir as her eye sight was weak and was advised for Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS) with IOL. "The patient was admitted in the ESI Model Hospital Bari Brahmana District Samba J&K on dated 23.10.2017 and a doctor conducted operation and after operation the patient was discharged on 26.10.2017 but the condition of penitent got deteriorated instead of improvement despite taking medicines which proved that Doctor had committed big blunder by doing wrong operation," the husband of patient said.
They said that after seeing no sign of improvement, the patient was again admitted in the ESIMH Bari Brahmana on dated 4.4.2018 and then again operation was conducted second time and patient was discharged on 10.4.2018 but it has been more than one year the patient is going through the trauma and further more the doctor always gave only drops or other small medicines from the Hospital and for costly medicines the patient was asked to purchase from the market and the I.P being illiterate and poor worker and was hardly getting Rs 6000 or Rs 7000 per month was forced to purchase the medicine from the open market.
He said further adding that the doctor' behaviour is very casual and have asked the patient to go for further check up in Chandigarh or Delhi by shunning her responsibility. He further said that the condition of the patient was worsened and the patient was taken to GMC Jammu for getting second opinion where senior doctor after securitizing treatment record that due to wrong operation eye has been damaged completely and only option left is that eye has to be remove permanently and thereafter artificial eye to be fixed.
He alleged that the total unprofessional and negligence approach and dereliction of duty being doctor and there is no space for keeping such inefficient doctors in the Hospital and it is also put it on record that ESI charge huge amount from the I.Ps as contribution and do not provide good service.
