AB-PMJAY 'betrays' poor TB patient
2/3/2019 11:54:26 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 3: Ambitious Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY)'s flaws come to fore when a poor patient admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu has been struggling to get treatment for last more than 25 days as his treatments' cost is not falling under scheme package due to which the family is running from pillar to post to get the treatment done.
However, doctors of the hospital claimed that patient's package under the ABPMJAY scheme is less than from his treatment's cost so management is facing difficulty to provide relief under the said scheme.
The patient namely Bishan Singh 47 years old has been suffering from Ankle Tuberculosis for last one year is admitted in GMC Jammu 25 days back where he is being treated but he could not bear the cost of items (implants) which would be used during the surgery that's why he continues lying on the bed of the hospital.
Bishan Singh told Early Times that he was admitted in the hospital January 9 or 10, 2019 and a number of tests were done by the doctor and found that the ankle would be operated if he wants to earn bread and butter for his starving family as he is only one in the family to earn. "But I don't have much amount to bear treatment cost as I am daily wager and still lying on the bed for last a few months and spending amount on children's education and food, "Bishan narrated.
"I was very happy when I listened about ABPMJAY scheme and a family will be eligible for reimbursement of up to Rs 5 lakh per year towards hospitalisation expenses of their family members. I was very much happy when I found my name in the list but I came to know that the cost of the required article will be more than Rs 15000 then I have very disappointed that the scheme is not bearing the cost of my treatment, "he added.
His wife Rani said that they called doctors as well as concerned persons a number of times as they are beneficiaries of the scheme but they got disappointing replies from them as they were saying treatment cost was more than the scheme's package so the cost would not covered in the above said scheme.
