Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 3: Apart from beginning his speech in Dogri, there was nothing special for Jammuites in the 36 minutes long speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Maharally at Vijaypur. PM Modi was in Vijaypur to lay foundation stone of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu and to e-inaugurate several projects.
Contrary to self- projected claims of 2 Lakh gathering by BJP leaders, the gathering was found not more than 50,000 including the security personnel from various agencies.
People from several areas of the state had reached at the venue, expecting energetic and eloquent speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Jammuites before Lok Sabha elections but apart from beginning in Dogri and criticizing opposition, PM had nothing to offer to Jammuites.
Unlike his Lalkaar Rally of December 2013 at MA stadium Jammu, PM Modi started his speech in Dogri with his famous slogan, "Paino Te Prao" (Brother and Sisters)....and a famous Dogri song...Aas Dogre-an Aakhnean Shan-e Kannee....Aasan Jeetiyan Ne Jangan Kamsaneh Kaneh...".
He switched back to Hindi and launched a blistering attack on Opposition party without naming Congress party. Apart from blaming opposition, PM Modi had nothing new to offer Jammuties and it appeared that his speech was nothing more than "old wine in new bottle".
The IIMC's Regional Centre was set up in 2012 in Jammu and for its campus, land was lately identified and construction works of Campus for the IIMC started during Modi government, but PM Modi e-inaugurated the IIMC's campus construction, which was set up in 2012 during UPA regime.
Moreover, PM Modi had visited Jammu to lay foundation stone of AIIMS and BJP leaders have been claiming sanctioning of AIIMS as BJP achievement but same was sanctioned after long agitation of Jammuites. "The people of Jammu protested for almost two months for setting up of AIIMS in the region under leadership of Coordination Committee for AIIMS", leader, Abhinav Sharma said while addressing press conference two days back in Jammu.
"Proposed establishment of AIIMS was an outcome of the struggle involving protests and agitations by different organisations in Jammu under the banner of AIIMS Coordination Committee", Sharma had said. Large hoardings of Avinav Sharma were also found in various parts of Jammu which reads, "Jammu's Aim was AIIMS and Jammu Got AIIMS"
Another 'achievement' as claimed by BJP was Kathua Engineer College whose building was also inaugurated by PM Modi but as per fact check, Engineering College is known as University Institute Engineer and Technology (UIET) years back.
The institute was one among two Government Colleges of Engineering and Technology sanctioned under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) in the beginning of 2014. RUSA is a centrally sponsored scheme started by UPA government and college was issued as proposed.
One each College has been established in 2017 at Safapora in Ganderbal district and Janglot in Kathua district. Presently the Kathua College is functional from faculty house opposite DDE Block, University of Jammu and today only the building of the college was inaugurated. In 2018, the State government tried to take the College under its control, but objections were raised by several faculty members of University of Jammu, forcing to Government to change its decision. Out of the today e-inaugurated projects, some were actually sanctioned by BJP led union government and BJP can boast of their sanctioning for Jammu but in today's Modi speech, there was no new announcement for Jammuities.
