NC, PDP in race to divide Jammu on regional lines!
2/9/2019 11:42:21 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 9: The much-needed creation of Ladakh division has come as a weapon for the two regional parties of Jammu and Kashmir, with both the Peoples Democratic Party and the National Conference trying to seemingly divide Jammu on regional lines. No sooner the government formally announced the creation of separate division of Ladakh on February 8, the twin parties made creation of separate division of "Chenab and Pir Panjal" as almost their election manifesto for the upcoming Assembly polls. A day after Ladakh development, the PDP took another leader with its leader from the tribal areas Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali making a formal demand for the separate divisions in Jammu province.
Sources said a team of senior leaders from both the NC and the PDP have decided to visit the Doda and Rajouri areas in the coming days.
Sources said the Abdullahs and Muftis have held separate meetings to chalk out plans for the visit of these areas in Jammu region "as early as possible." "Both the parties are making it their first priority for field visit of the areas," said a source privy to the development in the twin parties largely centered in Kashmir. Observers said such demand for "division of Jammu" will not only favor their vote banks but also coincide with the nefarious designs of the separatist lobby which already has poisoned the minds of people by coining terms like Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal region.
Sources said the coming days would be tough on this front. On Friday the Jammu and Kashmir Government approved creation of a separate Administrative/ Revenue Division for Ladakh. This division will comprise Leh and Kargil Districts with its headquarters at Leh. The Government also approved creation of the posts of Divisional Commissioner (Ladakh), Leh and Inspector General of Police (Ladakh), Leh. Further, a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary to Government, Planning, Development and Monitoring Department to identify the posts of divisional level heads of various departments that may be required for the new Division; particularly their staffing pattern, role and responsibilities and proposed location of these offices.
