Braving border skirmishes, Poonch youth makes it to JK cricket team | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 3: Braving routine border skirmishes and cross firing, 25- year- old Nawaz ul Munier Rather made it to state's cricket team and represented Jammu and Kashmir in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 in a T-20 Cricket match against Manipur on 28-2-2019 at Chukkapalli Pitchaiah Cricket Ground, Mulapadu, Vijayawada, the match won by J&K with 8 wickets. Youngest among the four siblings, Nawaz ul Munier Son of Munier Hussain and Zaitoon Begum after pursuing Hafiz-e-Quran course from Madrasa Jamia Zia ul Aloom Poonch at the age of 12 years, though carry forward his education, but his interest in Cricket keeps him close to humpty and dumpty play fields, close to Indo-Pakistan boarder which most of the time remains hot keeping in view of hostile condition between the two countries. Hailing from a village Dhangri Mandi, situated just two kilometers from the Border, Nawaz started dreaming big, but the hostile conditions and lack of infrastructure posed problems. It was his parents and siblings who after noticing his skills and talent started encouraging him and after seven years of rigorous hard work, Nawaz became the first Cricketer from the area to represent the JK Team in one of the India's top domestic Cricket Tournament. Though Nawaz did not get any chance to bat in the match, but he impressed the team management with his wicket keeping. Speaking to "Early Times", Nawaz said that he after facing lot of difficulties for years together shifted completely to Jammu three years ago where he joined KC Sports Club adding that it is due to hard work and encouragement of the owner of the club Arjun Chowdhary, his performance bettered with each passing day. He said that during trail match session, his performance was noticed by Irfan Pathan and Parvaiz Rasool who paved way for his selection. He said that Chairmen JKCA Ashiq Bukhari had supported him a lot and ensured his selection on the bases of his performance. He said that he is concentrating on practice. " I am looking for better practice avenues and to work hard for next Ranji Trophy season. It is my dream to represent India. I also want to play in IPL," he said. He gives the credit of his success to local Cricket Club of Poonch , "Poonch XI" from where he began his carrier. "I would like to thank my club mates like Imran Mir Kholi, Parvaiz Afridi, Zaffar Shah, Waseem Raja and others who supported me when I was a child. I am especially thankful to trainer Pawan Kumar who also recently trained India's under 19 Cricket team." He said that among the family, his uncle Azam Rather plays key role in his successful run at this level adding that encouragement from Irfan Pathan and Parvaiz Rasool also played key role in his life that helps him to cherish his long pending dream. He said that after completing his 10+2, he is pursuing degree in the field of sports so that he could remain connected with it in one or other way. |
