India needs to stand on its own legs, rhetoric blaming Pakistan will not help | | Ravinder Jalali | 3/6/2019 9:59:34 PM |
| Recently India summoned Pakistan High Commissioner in India Suhail Mohmood to lodge protest in connection with the Pakistan Foreign Minister's telephonic conversation with Kashmir based Huriyat and separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. India termed it as a brazen attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of our country. I find nothing new in it as Pakistan has been doing it since inception. It was rather an amusement for me to see the repeated reaction from India Govt. I would like to remind the readers that they (Pak. And Separatists) are constantly in touch with each other and not under some camouflage or in hiding but they are meeting personally and more brazenly in presence of India authorities and ministers. Take the case of national day of Pakistan or any other day of Pakistan which they celebrate in Indian capital, these separatists' leaders are invited and they (separatists) meet Pakistani leaders and ministers in presence of Indian Minister. So what is new or strange in it. Here I quore some examples: In 2014 on 2nd April Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit met J&K separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Farooq, Yasin Malik, and Shabir Shah at the embassy in New Delhi. In November 2013 Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz held discussions on Kashmir-related political developments with four delegations of Kashmiri secessionist leaders at the Pakistani High Commission. In July 2012 Pakistan Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani met eight Kashmiri separatists, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. In July 2011 Pakistan foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar met the delegations led by hardliner separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani and Hurriyat chief Mirwaiz Farooq at the Pak. High Commission In India. In March 2010, three top separatists - leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Yaseen Malik attended the Pakistan Day function at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. The tragedy is that our India Minister sits beside them. Now this phone call is nothing as compared to these incidents. I wonder why so much of hue and cry now. I feel that we forget things very fast. On the eve of republic day address the governor of J&K Satya Pal Malik said that Pakistan continues to support terrorists in J&K to disrupt peace. It is not for the first time such statements are coming from Government authorities. It has become a routine affair and even I feel the media may publish reports of their own as there is now a standard language for it. Govt. has been accepting that there are repeated attempts to infiltrate terrorists in our country and repeated cross border violations. Home Minister Rajnath Singh also had said earlier that the "problem" in the state is majorly due to Pakistan which "is continuously promoting terrorism and sending terrorists in India". He said the BJP government as well as previous governments had always tried to improve relations with Pakistan but "there is some compulsion with the neighbouring country which has been unsuccessful in doing anything over the issue" despite condemnation by international community. Million dollar question is to whom Government will talk and what will be the agenda. The irony of the tragedy is that the original stakeholders who are the aborigines of Kashmir known as Kashmiri Pandit are being ignored. Nobody is bothered about them. GOI is not clear about whom they want to talk. Govt. is keen in talking to Hurriyat leaders who do not believe in the Indian constitution and considers India as an occupational force and as a hostile country. When we had elected governments in State, what is the need of talking to separatists who are the agents of Pakistan and ISI and are on their payroll? They are the (OGW) Over Ground Workers of terrorists and are representing the pro-Pakistan and anti-India agenda. NIA is already investigating the trail of money between Pakistan, ISI and separatists. Separatists want plebiscite. Does GOI consider the proposal of separatists? Even the main stream politicians like National Conference and PDP are having different goals and agenda. NC has again raised the bogey of autonomy which has already been put in the dustbin. PDP concept is self rule which is further degraded and is worse than autonomy. Government has to decide the agenda on which it has to work. Can we talk to people who do not want constitution of India? If the solution with in constitution is not acceptable to separatists then what is the point in talking to them. It took decades to withdraw security cover to these separatists. Centre is making roller coaster rounds on whether to include Pakistan or not in our discussions. Centre also makes vague statements on the inclusion of Pakistan. Sometimes Centre does not want Pakistan in resolving Kashmir and some times bucks under the pressure of separatists and even mainstream parties which includes NC and PDP and agrees to talk to Pakistan. Some times they want to put some riders for talking to Pakistan and sometimes they do not want to talk to them unless Pakistan reins the terrorists operating from their soil. In fact New Delhi should have no problem in handling Pakistan because we know their all inns and outs and are familiar with their attitude and dealings, but surprisingly it seems that as if we are dealing with new or some unknown country. The fact of the matter is that Pakistan has been created on the basis of religion and hate against Hindus and Hindustan. It was also wish and design of British to set up a permanent enemy country for India in which they succeeded. Kashmir issue is the offshoot of the partition and the wrong deeds of our then leaders who were handling Kashmir issue and even now we are committing same mistakes. The mistakes committed by then leaders, in dealing with Kashmir issue, are followed by the present regime as well. The separatists who should have been in jails are still enjoying the privileges and favours which is not even available to the Indians. E.g. the separatists are enjoying the full and high degree of security at their residences and those security people who are safeguarding them for 24 hours, the same leaders are hurling abuses and venom against them and their families. India perhaps will be the only country on this planet where the people, who speak venom and act against the country openly, challenging the sovereignty and integrity of the nation, getting protection and privileges, which are not even provided to their nationalists. New Delhi must identify the real Nationalist forces and the genuine stake holders to whom they want to talk. The last but not the least for New Delhi is to introspect within themselves whether New Delhi considers J&K as an integral part of India. If New Delhi genuinely and sincerely feels and accepts that J&K is really part of India then there should be no difficulty in handling the Kashmir issue. |
