Shocker: In snowbound Warwan locals track 30 kms with youth's body | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 6: In a shocking incident mocking the system, the people of Warwan tracked around 30 kms in snowbound surroundings with the dead body of an 18 year old youth. The deceased youth identified by the locals as Altaf Ahmed Wani son of Ghulam Nabi Wani of village Basmina Warwan, was working as a labourer in Punjab and was on way to home in snow bound Warwan for appearing in the matriculation examination earlier scheduled tentatively for March 5 onwards. According to the angry people, the victim left for Warwan from Anantnag via Margan top on February 28, but did not reach home. After that the local people and his relatives launched a search for him and later found his dead body at snow clad Margan Top. Due to heavy snowfall enroute to village Inshan of Warwan, the people tracked with his dead body in snow bound area towards Gawran village of district Anantnag in South Kashmir that connects Warwan valley with Kishtwar District Headquarter and buried him in a local graveyard in one of the villages. "His dead body could not be airlifted so it required around 75 kms of foot journey for them to reach at victim's native village Basmina," said agitated people adding that Warwan valley is presently under snow cover of 5-8 feet while 12-15 feet of snow is at Margan Top, situated at an altitude of 10500 feet above sea level. The furious people held protest against DC Kishtwar and police for not helping them during the need of the hour. "Let DC Kishtwar gets well dressed so that he could appear on the media to tell a lie to the people," said angry people who demanded handing over of tehsil Warwan jurisdiction to district Anantnag administration. "We repeatedly requested District Administration and police for help, but no one came forward. They infect even didn't listen to us," said the people while holding protest along with the dead body. They also slammed the politicians for not taking effective steps to overcome the persisting problem. "We are being over charged for the chopper services being offered. Had the rates been genuine, this poor boy too could have availed the air service but this was not the case forcing him to choose life threatening journey to reach back home," said the protesters. |
