Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 9: A few days after Early Times reported that the National Investigation Agency will tighten noose around separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, he has been summoned by the NIA in connection with terror funding case.
As per the sources, the Mirwaiz is scheduled to appear before the NIA in New Delhi on March 11.
Officials said it was for the first time that Mirwaiz was going to appear before any national investigation agency for his alleged contacts with the terror network accused of anti-national activities in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said the Mirwaiz is shocked to have been summoned by the NIA to the national capital and has been holding meetings with his close aides, mainly those from the downtown of Srinagar, apart from his counterparts in the Hurriyat Conference.
Sources said no sooner the news broke that NIA has summoned Mirwaiz, his workers in Nowhatta and other adjoining areas started lobbying to stage protests in various areas.
Sources said the government has inputs of major protests in parts of Srinagar and that restrictions were likely to be kept in place in the old city areas on Monday.
Sources said the so called Joint Resistance Leadership is planning to give a call for protests in the area.
Sources said the NIA has inputs that Mirwaiz was having contact with the Hawala operators, who run their shops from across the border.
It is pertinent to mention here that the government recently withdrew the security of Mirwaiz who was allegedly enjoying VIP security from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
His bastion of Nowhatta has witnessed several anti-national incidents including lynching of DySP Ayoub Pandith apart from frequent waving of the IS flags in the area.
