Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 10: A team of student developers from the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) won a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh at the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) project competition at IIT-Kanpur. Smart India Hackathon is India's largest project competition managed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and includes real-world problem statements provided by Govt. Departments and Industries. The team from MIET comprised Kushagar Mahajan, Mohit Gupta, Rohini Sharma, Tushar Nagar from 2nd Year CSE and Tauseef Ahmed from 1st year CSE along with Danish Soma (2nd Year, IT). The student team from MIET emerged victorious among 32 finalist teams at IIT-Kanpur. They stood first in the problem statement given by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Govt. of India, which was to create an online platform for connecting the startups with the industries and investor community. The students designed an algorithm for classification and ranking of startups on different parameters and context matching with investor and industry interest.
The significance of the achievement of the students from MIET can be gauged by the fact that over 17000 teams from across India registered for SIH out of which 1400 teams were selected to participate in the 48-hour coding process for SIH, solving over 350 problems given by over 100 corporates and Govt. departments. Thirty-two teams participated in the finals at IIT-Kanpur and the team from MIET emerged the winners across India in their respective problem statement, getting the highest possible cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh which was reserved for the most complex problem category.
