rajouri, Mar 12: The Public Works (Road and Building) Department Rajouri has allegedly executed road repair work in sheer violation of norms as the work was mandated to the Rural Development Department. Moreover the payments to the tune of lakhs were withdrawn by the corrupt officials in connivance with the contactor without doing any work on ground.
Sources told Early Times that a road repair work of 3.75 kms length from Old Road Nahoti to Pathadala was executed in 2016-17 by the PWD (R&B) Rajouri which was not under its jurisdiction. "The road was constructed in the year 2000 at the cost over Rs 2 cr by Rural Development Department Rajouri and as per rules the repair was to be done by it but PWD bypassing the RDD executed repair work," they said further adding that repair work was allotted by the department without tendering to a contractor just to syphon off public money.
They further said that concerned AEE PWD (R&B) Showkat Ali, JE Jog Raj got the work allotted to contactor, who is BJP worker of the area and used his influence to get the work. More shockingly, no repair work was done on the ground and the work was shown only on paper only. Sources informed that the AEE has been facing corruption charges and inquiry in this regard is still pending.
A senior official of the PWD when contacted informed that if officers were found guilty, action will be taken against them. People demanded that Vigilance inquiry should be conducted at the earliest. |
