Jammu, Apr 10: The situation continued to be tense in Kishtwar District on 2nd consecutive day after top RSS leader Chanderkant Sharma, his PSO Rajinder Kumar were killed by the militants inside the District Hospital on Tuesday, forcing authorities to impose curfew. As per the details available with ET, situation remained tense in Kishtwar after clashes broke out between Security forces and the protesters as deceased RSS leader was cremated amidst high tempers. People in large number paid tribute to the departed leader who played key role in stopping mass exodus of minority community from the Chenab valley.
The clashes between the security forces and the protesters broke out in Bunastan area following which security personals including Army, CRPF and Police resorted to aerial firing, teargas shelling and cane charging to disburse the violent mob.
The mourners turned violent after seeing DC Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana coming out from Dak Banglow Kishtwar along with huge security cover following which the protestors lost their cool and raised slogans against DC, SSP Kishtwar and pelted stones on them.
According to eye-witnesses, large number of people came out of their houses to take part in the funeral procession of Sharma and on reaching near Dak Banglow they raised slogans against Pakistan and terrorists. The group soon turned violent and pelted stones on police personnel deployed there.
The slain RSS leader was cremated at Chowgan ground in a ceremony attended by Sangh leaders including its J-K chief Suchet Singh, BJP state president Ravinder Raina and Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Dr. Nirmal Singh.
After the cremation, the crowd including large number of women turned violent again and stormed the office of the District Superintendent of Police and ransacked Police Post Kuleed.
The angry people demanded immediate transfer of DC Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana and other senior police officials and blamed the administration and the police for security lapse that led to the killing of RSS leader and his PSO in a broad day light that too merely 150 meters away from Police Station Kishtwar.
During day long clashes, nearly one dozen security personals received minor injuries while unconfirmed reports said that two civilians also received injuries in security forces action, but no one reported at hospital for the treatment.
Meanwhile Constable Rajinder Kumar was cremated in his native Mughal Madian village of Chatroo Sub Division where hundreds of people gathered to pay homage to him.
